Gibson ES-330T Model Thinline Hollow Body Electric Guitar (1962), made in Kalamazoo, Michigan, serial # 47345, sunburst top, dark back and sides finish, laminated maple body, mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard, original brown alligator chipboard case.
This is a somewhat worn but vibey original example of a sunburst ES-330T, the relatively short-lived single pickup version of the popular ES-330TD. This guitar is from the next-to-last production year for this variation and still has older features including dot-inlaid rosewood fingerboard and plastic P-90 pickup cover. The double cutaway single-bound body is fully hollow with a deep rich sunburst on the top and dark finish on the back, sides, and neck. The slim round backed neck joins the body at the 16th fret, a trademark of the ES-330. Only 224 of these ES-330T's shipped out of Kalamazoo in 1962, and the next year the model was discontinued for good.
The distinctive feature of the ES-330T (as opposed to "TD") is the single P-90 pickup mounted in the center of the body, a feature shared with only a few other electric guitars. This is controlled with 1960s-style amber plastic-capped tone and volume knobs. This unusual pickup placement gives a smooth midrangey tone, obviously not as versatile as the twin pickup ES-330TD but with a distinctive sound all its own. This is a superbly easy-handling and great-playing, a super lightweight and exceptionally friendly to play companion.
Overall length is 43 1/8 in. (109.5 cm.), 16 1/8 in. (41 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 5/8 in. (4.1 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 24 3/4 in. (629 mm.). Width of nut is 1 11/16 in. (43 mm.).
This is a mostly original if somewhat "naturally relic'ed" guitar, showing general wear overall more from storage than play but nothing too serious. The finish has typical moderate checking and dings, chips and scrapes overall, with some finish flaking in spots. This is mostly notable on the front body horns and around the neck heel, with some flaking and chips to the headstock edges. It is likely the guitar was exposed to moisture long ago, but the flaked spots are stable and this is not an ongoing issue. The only structural damage is a small piece of the upper rear treble side tip of the headstock was chipped off long ago. The back of the neck is surprisingly clean with hardly any wear at all.
All hardware is original and unaltered except for the tailpiece, which is a nickel-plated period vintage part but not the original style used on the ES-330. Amazingly enough there was never a second strap button added. The guitar looks to have been refretted some time ago (the fretboard has some wear in the first position) and this remains a superb-playing instrument, about as handy as they come. The original chipboard case is included, still largely intact but fairly well worn overall. Overall Very Good + Condition.
