Jose Ramirez R1 Estudio Model Classical Guitar (1971), made in Madrid, Spain
Madrid, natural finish, African mahogany back and sides, cedar top; Spanish cedar neck with ebony fingerboard, original black hard shell case.
This is a Ramirez "Estudio R1" model that appears to have been waiting 50 years already to be seriously played. These models are Ramirez' good grade student level guitars, an authentic Madrid-built instrument at a lower price. Ramirez still describes them thus: "Built to the highest standards of Southern Spanish construction, the guitars in the R line are an affordable alternative to the NE and Concert lines. Without the cypress lined back and sides, these guitars are an adaptation of the traditional Ramirez designs. They are known to be lightweight and quick to respond".
This guitar is hand-dated to 1971 on the label, which also has an ink stamp from April 1972 likely added by the importer. It is a lovely original example, still residing in the original thin hardshell case (which is a bit oversize) with the original mimeographed Ramirez instruction sheet in several languages. The sound of this now well-aged guitar is quite good, and this is still an excellent instrument for the price.
Overall length is 38 7/8 in. (98.7 cm.), 14 5/8 in. (37.1 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 3 15/16 in. (10 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 25 5/8 in. (651 mm.). Width of nut is 2 in. (51 mm.).
Overall this is a very clean guitar showing not much use (especially for being 50+ years old) and a couple of minor repairs. The finish has a few very small dings dents and scuffs but really this guitar appeasers little played. There is one sealed top crack along the treble side of the fingerboard, not the neatest repair but completely solid. The back seam has been resealed as well. This is a very good player and still an excellent advanced student or recording studio/practice classical guitar with a superb pedigree. Excellent Condition.
