Fender Deluxe Reverb Model Tube Amplifier (1966), made in Fullerton, California, serial # A-13689, black tolex covering finish.
This is a relatively clean early-CBS era example of one of the all-time classic Fender amps, the black-panel Deluxe Reverb. With enough gain to kick at low level, sufficient headroom to keep up with a drum kit and full reverb and tremolo, the Deluxe Reverb is one of the benchmark 1960s amps all others are compared to. The serial number stamped into the chassis is A-13689; the amp dates to 1966. According to available serial number records, Fender made approximately 7000 of these black-panel classics that year! This one is cleaner than many and ready for the next 55 years.
Height is 17 1/4 in. (43.8 cm.), 24 1/4 in. (61.6 cm.) width, and 9 1/4 in. (23.5 cm.) in depth at side.
Externally this amp shows some light typical wear to the Tolex; the chassis straps and hardware are largely free of corrosion. The grillcloth and faceplate both look great with expected minor wear but nothing too serious.
Electrically, the amp is nicely original. The speaker is the original Jensen C12PS dating to the 19th week of 1966 (220-619), which many would consider a vastly superior speaker to the relatively cheap Oxford that more often came stock in Deluxes. This Jensen was recently professionally reconed and sounds great. The power, output, choke and reverb transformers are all original, marked 606-607, 606-547, 606-602 and 606-604, respectively and visible pot codes also date late 1965 or early 1966. The reverb tank is original, as is the footswitch.
The amp has had routine maintenance performed, including the replacement of all electrolytic capacitors, a grounded 3-prong cord added, cleaning of all sockets, pots and jacks and power tubes biased to spec. All of the original blue Astron signal capacitors are still working well! Overall this is a phenomenal-sounding early-CBS example of one of the all-time classic Fender amps, in ready-to-gig condition. Excellent Condition.
