The 1964 Vibroverb is a highly sought-after Fender model, often cited as "The Stevie Ray Vaughan amp", as he famously used his to record David Bowie's hit "Let's Dance" and kept two 1964's as the centerpiece of his live rig from 1984 onwards. The model was Fender's first to feature on-board Reverb, initially released as a 2x10 combo in blonde tolex covering in the early 1960's. Fender switched to a single 15" speaker design in mid-1963 as the new black Tolex-clad line-up was first introduced.

Running two 6L6GC, the Vibroverb puts out around 40 watts of power and was the only model in the line to combine the single 15" speaker with on-board reverb and tremolo. The earlier Vibroverbs featured a speaker made by CTS, while many later ones were fitted with the pricier JBL D130F. Apart from the speaker configuration, the circuit itself is similar to the contemporaneous 4x10 Super Reverb and 2x15 Pro Reverb, except for a slightly smaller lower-rated output transformer that gives the Vibroverb its very musical compression and break-up at less-than-deafening volume settings.

This amp was assembled in May 1964, as designated by the tube chart code "NE". Externally, the amp is spectacularly well-preserved for being nearly 58 years old. The black Tolex covering only shows minor signs of wear and the grille cloth is in impeccable shape. The faceplate is free of any major scratches and the chrome-plated hardware is VERY clean and free of any corrosion. The cabinet also retains the original tilt-back legs and the original reverb and tremolo footswitch is also included.

Electrically, the Vibroverb is all original. The original 15" CTS speaker dates to the 9th week of 1964 (137-409). The power transformer dates to the 15th week (606-415), the output transformer to the 19th week (606-419), the reverb transformer to 9th week (606-409) and the choke to the 20th week (606-420;), all of 1964, made by Schumacher and are all original to the amp . The pots all date between the 10th and 22nd week of 1964 and all look original as well. The amp has received our routine maintenance including replacement of all electrolytic capacitors as well as a new grounded 3-prong power cord, cleaning of all sockets, pots and jacks and biased to spec. It sounds great, as one would expect; for the full SRV vibe just bring your Strat and Hat! Overall Excellent Condition.
