This Starfire IV from 1968 is a double cutaway semi-hollow instrument with the neck jount moved slightly farther out from the body compared to earlier '60's models. The pickups are the typical 1960's style Guild humbucking pickups, similar to but a bit brighter and crisper than the Gbson equivalent. Like the Gibson ES 335 series, the Starfire IV has a solid block running through the center of the instrument, cutting down on feedback and giving the guitar a tighter tone. This type of Starfire is a very versatile guitar and has been a perennial favorite among players of many styles, particularly well thought of as an electric blues instrument. This example has been refinished some time ago but not otherwise altered, and for a 40+ year old guitar looks and feels practically new.\u003cbr\u003e \u003cbr\u003eOverall length is 42 in. This model, a later-style Huntington appears to be a solid body instrument but in fact has acoustic chambers routed in the body. The Huntington was one of the company's more high-end and most striking looking instruments, with a bound scroll body and vibrant sunburst finish. It carries many of the firm's trademark design elements including unique white plastic-encased pickups and the patented Micro-Nut, which allows harmonic compensation at the headstock. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eAt the other end of the strings is the \"Calibrato\" vibrato unit, the heart of Micro-frets legend; this is a heavy duty floating vibrato and bridge assembly which allows individual tension adjustments for each string, theoretically allowing entire chords to be raised and lowered while remaining in tune. The Calibrato was originally offered as an add-on for existing guitars; in some ways the Micro-frets line was designed around it! The Calibrato was advertised as having \"Precise Pitch modulation\" and includes the \"microsonic bridge with sustained harmonic action and floating power\"-you know that HAS to be special!\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThe body is finished in a brilliant Fender-like sunburst lacquer, while the maple neck is natural with a thick unbound rosewood fingerboard. The controls-tone, volume, pickup select and an extra tone modification switch are carried on the top-mounted pickguard, which has a see-through plastic upper section marked on the underside with a \"Microfrets\" logo. Tuners are the original deluxe Schallers with pearloid buttons and the sculpted space-age headstock also carries the brand logo and model name. This is a extremely well-made and fine playing guitar with a slim neck and bright, responsive pickups. The sound is crisp and hi-fi with surprising depth when needed; the tonal range is impressive. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThe Huntington came in several versions but was always one of the company's best-looking and fanciest guitars. A number of prominent country artists endorsed the line in the late 1960's including Carl Perkins. Micro-Frets may have had a fairly short history (although the company has seen a recent revival attempt) but the high-quality, well engineered instruments they left behind are very fine examples of American guitar ingenuity and worthy of the attention of both players and collectors.\u003cbr\u003e \u003cbr\u003eOverall length is 42 1\/2 in. (41 mm.). 100% original down to the screws; only the most minor handling and play wear. A truly exceptional example of one of Micro-Frets' coolest guitars, with a nice original rectangular hard case. This was the FIRST electric 12-string ever marketed, predated only by the \"Top half\" of the almost mythical Stratosphere Twin doubleneck and Gibson's subsequent extremely rare twin neck guitars from the late 50's. Several years before Rickenbacker developed their famous 12-string New York studio ace Vincent Bell went to Nathan Daniel with an instrument he'd been recording with�a Greek Bouzouki tuned like a guitar. Together they developed two guitars based on this idea, a teardrop-shaped single pickup model and this rather abstractly shaped double pickup Deluxe version. They first appeared in the 1961 catalogs and were produced until the late 60's. There is also an old rumor that Danelectro had somehow ended up with a large quantity of .008 gagued string wire, and thus \"invented\" octave tuning for the \"G\" string pairs (older 12's usually featured a doubled \"G\").\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThis Bellzouki has standard mid-60's features�the tuners are \"Skate Key\" Danelectro models introduced around this time; oddly there is no \"BELLZOUKI-Vincent Bell\" plaque on the body and no sign it was ever there. A typical if inexplicable feature is the strap button on top of the headstock. The semi-solid sunburst body is built in standard Danelectro fashion with a pine core and edging and Masonite top and back. The two lipstick tube pickups are controlled with individual volume and tone controls and a master volume, along with a selector switch mounted in a rather eccentric location on the rim. The bridge and neck are standard Dan-o pattern, this model being the initial use of the wide \"V\" shaped headstock later seen on several other models.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eIn general the Bellzouki is a very underrated guitar; with a wide comfortable fingerboard and two great-sounding Danelectro pickups this is one of the more useful electric 12's eve. Eccentric for sure, but a great-sounding and surprisingly versatile instrument, and a great testament to the talents of both Nathan Daniel and Vinnie Bell.\u003cbr\u003e \u003cbr\u003eOverall length is 39 in. All original, some average finish wear. There is some odd wear at the base of the neck, looking as if someone perhaps rounded off the heel area of the neck (not the body) a bit. Good player and a nice example of one od Danelectro's more eccentric creations. This guitar is a better player than most examples of this model we find-not only is the neck angle excellent, the frets are better than average as well. There are small ares of finish chipping on the side edges, and around the heel and headstock rim. The back of the neck of the neck has some wear in the first position. The silver paint on the knobs is worn, all other hardware quite clean. A really fine example of the rarer later version of one of Kay's best-regarded instruments. The diamond shaped F-holes and position markers give the guitar a rakish air, while the single-sided headstock adds a certain extra pizzazz. A snazzy engraved rosewood-and-plastic tailpiece insert carries the \"Trini Lopez Model\" designation, with a couple of extra diamonds. While these guitars are usually referred to as having a \"Firebird Style\" headstock, this model in fact slightly predates the non-reverse Firebird guitars it shares the design with. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThis example is typical for the late 60's, with chrome-plated hardware, nylon tune-o-matic saddles, enclosed strip Kluson tuners and the plastic \"amp\" style black molded knobs. \"Mr Lemon Tree\" Trini Lopez himself seems to have never played this model, preferring the \"Deluxe\" artist model bearing his name that is more similar to a Barney Kessel. The Trini Lopez Standard is the most colorful of the 335 semi-hollowbody family, and is still an unusual visually striking guitar as well as a fine playing instrument.\u003cbr\u003e \u003cbr\u003eOverall length is 43 9\/16 in. (110.6 cm.), 16 in. (40.6 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 3\/4 in. (4.4 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 24 3\/4 in. (629 mm.). Width of nut is 1 9\/16 in. (40 mm.). All original with some general finish wear and checking, most notably to the back. A very good player with a slightly chunkier neck than many late 60's Gibsons. The guitar was bought by its most recent owner in 1981 at the semi-legendary Guitar Trader shop in Red Bank NJ, one of the first dedicated \"Vintage' guitar stores in the world. In those heady days, concepts of \"vintage\" were very different from now, and most late 1960's instruments were just \"used guitars\" with no particular collectible value! At that point, 12 string electrics were very unfashionable and comparatively worthless so the folks at Guitar Trader undertook converting a number of 1966-69 ES-335-12's to the more saleable 6-string format. As you've probably figured out, this is one of those guitars. The work is amazingly clean, very inconspicuous, and if we didn't know the story we'd never guess it had been altered. The headstock was re-sculpted to the correct contour and re-veneered front and back, with a correct Gibson headstock facing and factory style \"stinger\" in black lacquer on the back. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThe finish blacklights perfectly, being now 30+ year old lacquer (the blacklight is not an infallible tool!). The serial number is correctly stamped on the rear of the headstock but the numbers are fractionally bigger than normal; the orange label is intact but the handwritten areas are mostly faded out. All parts and electronics are original except a replaced jack and an added Bigsby from the 1970's; it was also refretted with large '80's wire-an excellent pro job. Despite its eccentric history this is a great playing and sounding 335, an excellent gigging guitar and a relative bargain in a player's '60's Gibson.\u003cbr\u003e \u003cbr\u003eOverall length is 42 in. (106.7 cm.), 16 in. (40.6 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 3\/4 in. (4.4 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 24 3\/4 in. (629 mm.). Width of nut is 1 5\/8 in. (41 mm.). This Calibra I thin hollow-body guitar is one of the company's signature instruments. It carries many of the firm's trademark design elements including a light semi-hollow body, white plastic-encased pickups and the patented Micro-Nut, which allows harmonic compensation of the strings at the headstock end. At the other end is the \"Calibrato\" vibrato unit, the heart of Micro-frets legend; this is a floating vibrato and bridge assembley which allows individual tension adjustments for each string, theoretically allowing entire chords to be raised and lowered while remaining in tune. The Calibrato was originally offered as an add-on for existing guitars; in some ways the Micro-frets line was designed around it! The Calibrato was advertised as having \"Precise Pitch modulation\" and includes the \"microsonic bridge with sustained harmonic action and floating power\"-you know that HAS to be special!\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e The hollow body is built in two pieces meeting at the rim finished in a brilliant deep cherry lacquer, while the maple neck is natural with an unbound rosewood fingerboard. Tone, volume and pickup select controls are carried on a top-mounted pickguard. Tuners are the original openback Waverly strip and the sculpted space-age headstock also carries the brand logo and model name. This is a very good playing guitar with a slim neck and bright, very responsive pickups. The sound is crisp and hi-fi with surprising depth when needed; the tonal range is impressive. This model was one of the company's more popular guitars; several prominent country artists endorsed the line in the late 1960's and this is the model used by Carl Perkins, among others. Micro-Frets may have had a fairly short history (although the company has seen a recent revival attempt) but the high-quality, well engineered instruments they left behind are very fine examples of American guitar ingenuity and worthy of the attention of both players and collectors.\u003cbr\u003e \u003cbr\u003eOverall length is 42 1\/2 in. The neck is topped with a Silvertone logo \"paddle\" headstock with skate key-style tuners. The amp\/case combination is actually surprisingly good-sounding, with a great tremolo. This is a very nice example of these great sounding and playing little guitars, a complete set that remains one of the best bargains in an American made vintage guitar still going.\u003cbr\u003e \u003cbr\u003eOverall length is 37 1\/2 in. (95.2 cm.), 13 in. (33 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 5\/8 in. (4.1 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 25 1\/2 in. (648 mm.). Width of nut is 1 13\/16 in. (46 mm.). All original set, the guitar is an excellent player and very clean except for some small paint chips on the headstock edges and a few on the body. The amp case works well and shows some very light wear to the covering but is nice overall-we did have to replace the preamp tube and the original trem pedal has gone missing. One of the nicer examples of this classic garage band combo we have had. Pickups and knobs are original but the wiring rig has been replaced (the bulk of the rather funky looking original wiring is in the case). The guitar has been refretted-frets are larger than original style but the work is very professional quality and playability remains excellent. The tuners are style correct but perhaps slightly later than the guitar. A cool gigging 335! This Starfire IV is a very versatile guitar and has been a perennial favorite among players of many styles-they are particularly well thought of as an electric blues instrument. The stock fancy German-made Kolb tuners with diamond-shaped imitation pearl buttons are fairly uncommon, used only around this time period on some higher-end Guilds. This type of Starfire has been a perennial favorite for 50 years now among players of many styles, and is particularly well thought of as an electric blues instrument. This guitar was played for many hundreds of hours but remains original down to the last screw, except for a very fine recent refret with period correct wire. This guitar also has an extremely good neck angle for a 1960's Guild, making the Bigsby and bridge setup more functional than many, and the pickups are wired in-phase, which many period examples are not. While this may not be the prettiest 1960's Starfire we have had, it feels like the most soulful and perhaps the best playing one yet! Includes a similarly well-worn period Guild HSC. This guitar, a second series Spacetone Model is a thin hollow body instrument with acoustic chambers routed out of solid wood body halves which are joined at the center of the rim. This particular Spacetone appears unique, and was certainly a custom ordered instrument; it is fitted with a Bigsby vibrato unit instead of the proprietary Micro-Frets Calibrato. This is extremely rare, as the original Micro-Frets company product was the patented vibrato and the company rarely used any other hardware. There is an specially designed milled aluminum roller mounted behind the bridge unit, and extra mini roller units on the headstock to enhance functionality on the Bigsby, all factory fitted. We've never seen another one like this, but it works very well and provides an interesting twist on the Micro-Frets sound.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e The guitar has a bound-edge symmetrical double cutaway body with a single eccentrically shaped F-hole on the top half finished in a vibrant 3-color sunburst. It carries the firm's trademark white plastic-encased pickups and the patented Micro-Nut, which allows harmonic compensation at the headstock. \u003cbr\u003eThe maple neck is natural with a thick unbound dot-inlaid rosewood fingerboard. The controls-tone, volume, pickup select and an extra tone modification switch are carried on the bi-level top-mounted pickguard. Tuners are the original Schaller with metal buttons and the sculpted space-age headstock also carries the brand logo and model name. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThis is a very well-made and fine playing guitar with a slim, comfortable neck and very responsive pickups. The sound is crisp and hi-fi with surprising depth when needed; the tonal range is impressive. There is a small crack in the plastic pickguard by the bracket securing screw. This is a very good playing and sounding Starfire, complete with the original HSC. It carries many of the firm's trademark white plastic-encased pickups and the patented Micro-Nut, which allows harmonic compensation at the headstock. This guitar uses the company's elaborate Calibrato trem system, designed to allow the strings to remain in tune when the the vibrato is used, and a fully-adjustable bridge unit. The maple neck is natural with a thick unbound dot-inlaid rosewood fingerboard. The controls-tone, volume, pickup select and an extra tone modification switch are carried on the bi-level top-mounted pickguard. Tuners are the original openback strip Waverlys with metal buttons and the sculpted space-age headstock also carries the brand logo and model name. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThis is a very well-made and fine playing guitar with a slim, comfortable neck and very responsive pickups. The sound is crisp and hi-fi with surprising depth when needed; the tonal range is impressive. This guitar has a lot of play wear overall, quite heavily used but is just great player. This guitar never had a vibrato, there are no holes or marks from old screws at the tail area. There is an old V-break headstock repair, nicely done with some overspray. The neck-position PAF appears rewound, the finish has a lot of fade and some heavily rubbed areas wit loss, including a pick wear area between the pickups. The guitar is wired in Mono, with the Varitone still functional. This is fantastic sounding guitar with a great \"Freddy King\" blues-approved vibe! The Selmer label under the F-hole carries the distributor's serial number and actually reads \"Verithin Bigsby\". The pickups are the famous Hofner \"staple\" units with side-mount rings, as used on their most sought-after basses. This is a nicely made and fairly fancy guitar with a distinct Beat-era pedigree, very light and handy with a laminated spruce top and maple back and sides. As the name implies, it is indeed VERY thin, only 1 3\/16\" at the rim-less than many solidbodies. And like all pre-1965 Hofners is very rare in the US.\u003cbr\u003e \u003cbr\u003eOverall length is 41 1\/2 in. (105.4 cm.), 16 1\/4 in. (41.3 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 3\/16 in. (3 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 25 in. (635 mm.). Width of nut is 1 3\/4 in. (44 mm.). Very nice, all original condition-complete except the floating pickguard has gone missing. There is light play wear overall, some scuffing mostly to the back finish but no major wear. This is a great little \"Beat Group\" guitar with a comfortable feel and chunky sound.
