Gibson SG Custom Model Solid Body Electric Guitar (1963), made in Kalamazoo, Michigan, white lacquer finish, mahogany body and neck, rosewood fingerboard, original black hard shell case.

Overall length is 39 3/4 in. (101 cm.), 13 1/4 in. (33.6 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 1/4 in. (3.2 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 24 3/4 in. (629 mm.). Width of nut is 1 11/16 in. (43 mm.).

Overall a lovely example of one of our favorite 1960s Gibson creations. This guitar shows some typical finish wear and checking, but no major loss; just a few chips near the edges. The neck and heel show no breaks or repairs, unlike many examples of this model. The frets are the original "fretless wonder" low narrow wire, still quite playable. The pickups are the three original patent # humbuckers with undisturbed covers, and all solder joints appear original to the period.

That leads to the only mystery about this guitar -- although the serial number and body specs are correct for 1963, the one legible pot date is from the 29th week of 1965. Whether the wiring rig was replaced soon after the initial sale for some reason, or the guitar was a case of late shipment is lost to the world now! At any rate, this is a great playing and sounding instrument, a favorite of many players over the years (including Sister Rosetta Tharpe and Mike Nesmith, to name two of the more left-of-field favorites) and always a "wow"-producing instrument even on just opening the case! The case, by the way, is the original yellow-lined black hardshell and in the pocket is the original hangtag, humbucking pickup sheet, and Tune-O-Matic bridge instructions. Overall Excellent Condition.
