Prairie State Model 427 Auditorium Model Flat Top Acoustic Guitar, made by Larson Brothers, c. 1932, made in Chicago, serial # 522, natural lacquer finish, rosewood back and sides, spruce top; mahogany neck with ebony fingerboard, original black chipboard case.
Overall length is 39 1/2 in. (100.3 cm.), 15 in. (38.1 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 3 1/4 in. (8.3 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 25 1/2 in. (648 mm.). Width of nut is 1 15/16 in. (49 mm.). This beautiful Larson guitar has survived 80+ years in almost unbelievably fine condition-no cracks, breaks or indeed evidence of much play or handling at all. The finish is still nearly perfect with only scattered tiny scrapes and dings, and there is just a touch of wear to the first and second frets and fingerboard beside them. The original owner's name is carefully etched into the top on the upper bass bout and filled withn gold leaf-it looks very muck like this was done at the Larson's shop prior to completion as it is under the finish topcoat. This is as close to getting a new guitar direct from Carl and August as we can imagine, and comes ready-to-play in the original heavy chipboard case. Excellent + Condition.
