Gibson L-00 Model Flat Top Acoustic Guitar (1941), made in Kalamazoo, Michigan, natural lacquer finish, mahogany back and sides, spruce top; mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard, black hard shell case.

This is a very unusual variation of the Gibson L-00, which in all of its many forms is one of our favorite instruments. The natural finish option dates to 1941, when the J-35 was also offered in a similar livery. This guitar listed at $42.50 in 1941, the most expensive version of the L-00 cataloged and was made only in very limited numbers…known shipping totals indicate all of 28 left of Kalamazoo that year. While the actual number produced may be a bit higher, this is still a seriously rare guitar! The natural top and back are single bound, with the standard pre-war "firestripe" celluloid pickguard. The neck is a round-backed profile with a slim French heel, and is very comfortable to play. This is one of the cleanest pre-WWII Gibsons we have ever seen.

Overall length is 40 in. (101.6 cm.), 14 3/4 in. (37.5 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 4 3/8 in. (11.1 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 24 3/4 in. (629 mm.). Width of nut is 1 11/16 in. (43 mm.). This guitar is almost unbelievably well preserved for an instrument of this vintage; there is very little wear anywhere. The bridge has been lowered slightly and re-lacquered over and the original tuners have newer buttons, otherwise no alteration or repair. There are some very small dings to the top and small dark spots on the back finish that appear to be the result of some sort of hot substance spattering. The finish is still shiny, Really very few signs of use, this guitar is still waiting for it's first serious player! Excellent + Condition.
