Gibson LG-0 Model Flat Top Acoustic Guitar (1965), made in Kalamazoo, Michigan, serial # 264076, natural lacquer finish, mahogany body and neck, rosewood fingerboard.
The LG-0 was Gibson's entry-level guitar in the 1960's, built for students and casual guitarists and designed primarily for easy playing and simple production. Gibson was well aware of the value of "branding" and sought to equip music stores and studios with a guitar that would start as many young players as possible down the "Gibson road to Happiness"! When originally built the main competition for the LG-0 was inexpensive Harmony and Kay flat tops, fancier to look at but generally not as friendly to actually play! These 60's LG-0's remain very plain but usually good sounding and playing guitars, still an excellent value in a solid mahogany instrument. This one has seen some fairly serious use, and has a nicely mellowed-out tone quality easily exceeding its original amateur-level expectations.
Overall length is 39 3/4 in. (101 cm.), 14 1/2 in. (36.8 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 4 9/16 in. (11.6 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 24 3/4 in. (629 mm.). Width of nut is 1 11/16 in. (43 mm.). Structurally fine with a lot of finish checking; original plastic bridge replaced with a nicely made wooden replica and pickguard is a modern repro as well. Some finish disturbance in the bridge area from a previous removal, and there are several very small screw holes in the top from an old surface-mounted DeArmond pickup, and in the rim from an old tailpiece installation. Two upper tuner buttons bent but functional, and there is a strap button added to the heel. A nice playing little Gibson with a tight but sweet sound, this would also make a good amplified stage guitar with an added pickup. Overall Very Good + Condition.
