Ampeg B-15N Portaflex, * LOCAL PICKUP ONLY Model Tube Bass Amplifier (1966), made in Linden NJ, serial # 020840, blue checked Tolex finish.

Overall this is a very nicely preserved example of the all-time classic recording bass amp, Ampeg's B-15N. From its inception until today, this model has been the preferred in-house bass amplifier for the great majority of professional studios, and for a long time was a lower volume gig standard as well. The serial number 020840 stamped on the back of the chassis indicates the amp was made in late 1965 or very early '66. This was a very popular amp; we see a decent number of period B-15s, but most have seen decades of use and often show heavier wear and/or modifications. This 1965-6 model is one of the cleaner we've had in our showroom and appears to have been very well cared for; it is also a wonderful sounding amp.

Height is 29 in. (73.7 cm.), 21 in. (53.3 cm.) width, and 13 3/4 in. (34.9 cm.) deep.

Externally, this amp is very well-preserved. The signature "Blue Check" Tolex is in very fine shape with only some minor wear, most notably some scratching to the center back and two dings, one on the front above the logo and one on the rear left upper corner. The tops of the transformer covers only show a couple chips. The metal corners are clean with only very light signs of corrosion and the faceplate is nearly mirror clean with no notable wear or corrosion and all the stenciled lettering is intact. The original Ampeg logo from the upper front of the cabinet is present and the original handle is still present, albeit showing some rust particularly to one side of the hardware. The amp comes complete with the original dolly as well.

Internally, this amp remains nicely original. The speaker is a JBL D140F, likely not original, but virtually the most premium period speaker to put in this amp and sounds really fantastic. The Ampeg has otherwise seen our typical servicing and maintenance, including replacement of all electrolytic capacitors, adding a grounded 3-prong power cord, cleaning of all sockets, pots and jacks and biased to spec.

Overall this amp is in great shape and sounds truly fabulous. The speaker packs a nice even punch, with no overt boominess even at higher volumes. This is a lovely example overall; a true classic amp and perennial studio staple. Overall Excellent Condition.
