Gibson SG Standard Solid Body Electric Guitar (1969)
Gibson SG Standard Model Solid Body Electric Guitar (1969), made in Kalamazoo, Michigan, serial # 857805, cherry lacquer finish, mahogany body and neck, rosewood fingerboard, original black chipboard case. Item # 7704
Overall length is 39 3/4 in. (101 cm.), 13 in. (33 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 1/4 in. (3.2 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 24 3/4 in. (629 mm.). Width of nut is 1 5/8 in. (41 mm.).
This guitar is ALL original with no repairs or alterations and very clean overall, with only some very light handling and minimal play wear to show for its nearly 50 years on Earth.
The only real demerit is some light buckle wear and moderately heavy strap burn rash on the back (and a couple of tiny spots on the top and headstock) from someone leaving a vinyl-backed strap in the case in contact with the guitar long ago. It features untouched electronics with perfect original solder joints (pots dated mid-1969), all hardware complete and shiny chrome, including the oft-missing trem arm, and the finish is a rich deep cherry with no fade or checking. The frets are full-height and look to have been recently polished out; the fingerboard shows virtually no wear.
The guitar is still housed in the original chipboard case (somebody bought the more expensive guitar in early 1971 but cheaped out on the case!) and a fantastic package of case candy including the original hangtag warranty booklet (with matching serial number, but the card still attached and never sent in), a Gibson "Diamond Jubilee" hangtag (they dated the company's founding to 1894), and a rarely seen original Gibson shipping tag marked for this guitar and case combination and stamped February 9, 1970, the day it left Kalamazoo.
This is not only a wonderful vintage package, but a really good-playing and sounding example of this period SG model, with two rampaging patent # humbuckers and an unusually good neck angle. We try not to court cliché too obviously, but this guitar is the definition or a Rock Machine, born to be cranked for Angus licks and beyond! Overall Excellent Condition.
