Gibson LG-0 Flat Top Acoustic Guitar (1968)
Gibson LG-0 Model Flat Top Acoustic Guitar (1968), made in Kalamazoo, Michigan, serial # 510415, natural lacquer finish, mahogany body and neck, rosewood fingerboard, original black chipboard case. Item # 7516
A nicely original example of Gibson's least expensive flat top from the 1960's, the LG-0. Intended originally for students, it features all mahogany construction, including a tortoise celluloid bound solid mahogany top with ladder bracing, and a wooden bridge with and adjustable wooden saddle. The tortoise celluloid pickguard is screwed to top, and the tuners are Japanese-made strip units. This example has the rather narrow fingerboard at the nut common to late '60's Gibsons. The LG-0 is about as simple as a Gibson ever got, but true to the company's intentions still a great playing little guitar.
Overall length is 39 1/2 in. (100.3 cm.), 14 3/8 in. (36.5 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 4 1/2 in. (11.4 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 24 3/4 in. (629 mm.). Width of nut is 1 9/16 in. (40 mm.). This guitar has been played in but does not show a lot of wear, just some light scratches, checking and small dings to the surface finish. All original with just an added strap button to the heel and the frets have been given a flatter crown. This guitar is very solid with one back crack repair on the lower treble edge-functionally fine but not especially neatly done. Overall this is a very nice player with a surprisingly good sound-this LG-0 has the original adjustable-saddle rosewood bridge and is a much better sounding and playing instrument than those with the ill-fated molded plastic bridge. All original including the original chipboard case. Excellent - Condition.
