C. F. Martin 00-17 Model Flat Top Acoustic Guitar (1954), made in Nazareth, PA, natural lacquer finish, mahogany body and neck, rosewood fingerboard, brown tolex hard shell case.

This is a nice all-mahogany Martin 00 from the second half of 1954, with the typical crisply defined yet still warm sound these guitars are well known for. Typical Martin features for this year include original individual Waverly openback tuners with plastic buttons, small straight rosewood bridge, and tortoise celluloid pickguard. These mahogany-top guitars have a distinctive ringing tone and are excellent fingerpickers as well as a great all-around choice in a vintage Martin that won't break the bank.
Overall length is 39 1/4 in. (99.7 cm.), 14 1/2 in. (36.8 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 4 1/16 in. (10.3 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 24 3/4 in. (629 mm.). Width of nut is 1 11/16 in. (43 mm.).

This old Martin shows some general wear overall, with moderate checking, dings, chips, and scrapes to the finish, but no large areas of finish loss. The neck has been reset -- very solidly, but perhaps not as not as neatly as we might prefer -- and the bridge shows plenty of saddle. There are several long grain cracks on the back, all well sealed up but still visible, and the back center seam looks to have been resealed as well. This is an excellent player with a big sound for a smaller-body guitar! Excellent - Condition.
