Gibson ES-175 Model Arch Top Hollow Body Electric Guitar (1950), made in Kalamazoo, Michigan, serial # A-5700, sunburst lacquer finish, laminated maple body, mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard, black hard shell case.

This is a well-played example of an early ES-175, from the second year of issue for this enduringly popular Gibson. This guitar has a dark brown sunburst top and the bridge is a full-footed design used up through around 1954. When this example was shipped in fall 1950, the ES-175 was still a relatively new design. The combination of the 16" wide laminated maple body with a sharp Florentine cutaway, 24 3/4" scale and P-90 pickup resulted in a fortuitous and instantly popular design that remains one of Gibson's most well-regarded classics. This guitar was obviously heavily used but remains an excellent playing guitar, with the expected wonderful classic jazz sound.
Overall length is 40 1/2 in. (102.9 cm.), 16 in. (40.6 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 3 1/4 in. (8.2 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 24 3/4 in. (629 mm.). Width of nut is 1 11/16 in. (43 mm.). This old 175 has seen a lot of use and shows a decent amount of wear overall but remains a fine player. It retains the oiginal P-90 pickup, wiring rig and wooden adjustable bridge, with newer excellent repro tailpiece, knobs, tuners and pickguard. There is a strap button added to the heel, and a lot of the finish is worn off the heel edge. The back of the neck also shows a lot of wear through the lacquer into the wood, which is smoothed down from years of play. The pickup cover shows some warping from shrinkage of the plastic on the front edge. The headstock shows a lot of chipping to the edges, the body has some moderately heavy checking but no excessive wear. A recent refret and new nut make this an excellent player, with a lot of character. Overall Very Good + Condition.
