Fender Precision Bass Model Solid Body Electric Bass Guitar (1966), made in Fullerton, California, serial # 141012, sunburst lacquer finish, maple neck, rosewood fingerboard, alder body, original black tolex hard shell case.

This is a very nice example of an early CBS era Fender bass, played in but not abused and retaining much of the feel and sound of Leo's earlier instruments. Typical features include a thin rosewood fingerboard with pearl dot inlay and the original small frets, the silver "transition" Fender logo decal, thick 3-ply tortoise pickguard and sharply spayed 3-color lacquer finish on the body. The pots are dated to the 11the week of 1966. This is a superbly light and resonant bass; we often find that 1966 Precisions have a distinctive sound, a bit brighter than earlier versions and with a distinctive growl. This one has that in spades!

Overall length is 45 in. (114.3 cm.), 13 in. (33 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 1/2 in. (3.8 cm.) . Scale length is 34 in. (864 mm.). Width of nut is 1 3/4 in. (44 mm.). This is a nice original bass overall, with some typical wear to the finish-which is still a vibrant sunburst with very little fade. There is a finger wear spot on the face just below the G string and some wear to the edges, and a lot of very small dings into the lacquer where the player's arm rests…possibly from a watchband or bracelet. The back shows buckle wear into but mostly not through the finish. The only alteration appears to be a very light overspray to the back of the neck; it is very old lacquer and could possibly be slightly sloppy factory work (this is the CBS era, after all…) and is not obtrusive. The fingerboard and frets show some light wear, and playability is excellent. The bass is complete including the often removed parts: The plastic fingerrest, chrome pickup and tailpiece covers are all intact. A very fine playing example, complete with its original black Tolex HSC. Overall Excellent - Condition.
