Fender Jazzmaster Model Solid Body Electric Guitar (1960), made in Fullerton, California, serial # 45299, sunburst lacquer finish, alder body, maple neck with rosewood fingerboard, original tweed hard shell case.

This is a fairly well-played but nicely preserved all original early slab-board Jazzmaster, a lovely example of the second generation of this model with the tortoise celluloid pickguard in place of the earlier anodized aluminum version. This guitar is without a neck date marking (as is typical of late 1959-early 60, as Fender suspended neck dating for a period of time) but pot codes are from of the 16th and 47th week of 1959, so we're calling it an early 1960. The early 1960s Jazzmasters were the top of the Fender line at the time and are exceptionally fine instruments, with a still-unique sound. This one is newly set up and ready for its next 50 years of service.
Overall length is 41 in. (104.1 cm.), 14 in. (35.6 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 5/8 in. (4.1 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 25 1/2 in. (648 mm.). Width of nut is 1 5/8 in. (41 mm.).

This is a nicely original guitar that shows some normal wear overall but no abuse, repair, or alteration except for an exact correct refret. There are several spots of finish wear into the wood on the edges of the body, several deep scratches on the back, and some dings through the lacquer on the top. The neck finish is worn down to the wood from the first position back to about the fifth fret area. The top finish has faded to a deep almost two-tone effect and the original tortoise celluloid pickguard has some typical shrinkage but nothing excessive.

All components are original (including the '50s-style amber switch tip) the tone control for the rhythm circuit is stiff as the pickguard is shrinking in that area but still functional. This is a great-sounding and playing guitar with a sweet and powerful twang -- it really nails that classic early '60s Fender signature tone. Includes a well-worn original tweed HSC, heavily painted white long ago by someone who may have been bummed they didn't get one of the new white Tolex Fender cases! Excellent - Condition.
