C. F. Martin R-18 Model Arch Top Acoustic Guitar (1934), made in Nazareth, PA, serial # 57124, sunburst top, natural back and sides finish, mahogany back, sides and neck, spruce top, rosewood fingerboard, black gig bag case.
Overall length is 39 in. (99.1 cm.), 14 3/8 in. (36.5 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 4 1/4 in. (10.8 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 24 3/4 in. (629 mm.). Width of nut is 1 11/16 in. (43 mm.).

This R-18 shows a lot of wear and repair but is a good playing instrument nonetheless. It remains all original except the tuners, which are recent repros of the original openback Grover pegs. There is a lot of pickwear to the top finish, mostly in the area above the strings. The guitar overall shows a lot of dings and dents, and a couple of long scrapes to the back. There is a repair to the rim just below the neck heel involving some finish touch-up, and the neck has been reset solidly but with visible evidence all around the heel and fingerboard.

This small mahogany archtop is from one of the best years of Martin history, and while not the most desirable of the company's creations has a loud, bright and ringing sound -- far from the prettiest-toned Martin, but a cool survivor nonetheless. Very Good + Condition.
