Gibson LG-2 Model Flat Top Acoustic Guitar, c. 1949, made in Kalamazoo, Michigan, serial # n/a, sunburst lacquer finish, Mahogany back, sides and neck, spruce top, rosewood bridge and fingerboard, black hard shell case.
Overall length is 39 1/8 in. (99.4 cm.), 14 3/16 in. (36 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 4 3/8 in. (11.1 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 24 3/4 in. (629 mm.). Width of nut is 1 11/16 in. (43 mm.). This is a really nice, original and great sounding example of a just-postwar Gibson LG-2. The guitar is quite clean overall; a very fine player with a recent expert neckset. The finish is nicely preserved overall-there are small dings and dents and some light playwear, most notably to the upper treble bout, as well as a bit between the pickguard and bridge. There are a few nicks and scratches along the back of the body. There is one very small repaired crack to the spruce top just in front of the bridge, and the back braces have been reglued solidly but not as neatly as we might prefer. The original openback Kluson tuners have newer plastic buttons. A typical feature for this year is a very comfortable neck profile, slimmer than the examples from just slightly earlier in the 1940's. A sweet-sounding old Gibson, complete with a newer HSC. Excellent Condition.
