C. F. Martin 00-17 Model Flat Top Acoustic Guitar (1950), made in Nazareth, PA, serial # 116477, natural mahogany finish, mahogany body and neck with rosewood fingerboard, black chipboard case.

This is a nice all-mahogany Martin 00 from the second half of 1950, with the typical crisply defined yet still warm sound these guitars are well known for. Typical Martin features for this year include original individual Kluson large-plate openback tuners with metal buttons, small straight rosewood bridge and tortoise celluloid pickguard. These mahogany-top guitars have a distinctive ringing tone and are excellent fingerpickers as well as a great all-around choice in a vintage Martin that won't break the bank.
Overall length is 39 1/4 in. (99.7 cm.), 14 3/8 in. (36.5 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 4 1/16 in. (10.3 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 24 3/4 in. (629 mm.). Width of nut is 1 11/16 in. (43 mm.). A nicely original and excellent playing old mahogany 00-size Martin, with some honest wear and well set up for its next 70 years. This guitar has a nice smooth action, having had a pro neck reset and some fret work fairly recently. The fittings and finish remain all original with some typical old dings, scratches and wear-most notably to the back where there are a few deep scratches. There is a small repaired top crack at the upper edge of the pickguard with a small re-inforcement underneath at the soundhole lip, but no other visible cracks. There is some finish blushing around the heel and fingerboard from the neck set process, but the work is solid and well done. The bridge was lowered and smoothed down a bit at some point and there is a newer compensated saddle. The neck finish relatively clean with just some very small dings to the back. This is a very good sounding guitar, louder than many of these with plenty of ring, but retaining an underlying sweetness. Excellent - Condition.
